Stress and sleep
Stress and disrupted sleep often travel together. Stress can show up as racing thoughts, physical tension, or a sense of being stretched thin, while sleep difficulties can involve trouble falling asleep, waking through the night, or simply not feeling rested. Either can affect the other, and both are common experiences that do not require a crisis to warrant support.
Presentations vary widely: some people carry stress mainly as physical tension in the shoulders and jaw, others notice it more as a busy, hard-to-quiet mind at bedtime. Life changes, workload, and general daily pace all play a role, and what helps settle one person's pattern is not automatically right for another.
This page explains, in general terms, how counselling, acupuncture, and massage therapy commonly support stress and sleep at the clinic. It is educational information, not a diagnosis or a substitute for urgent mental health support.
How We Can Help
How we can help
Counselling & social work
A Registered Social Worker offers confidential, person-centred sessions that draw on CBT-informed and solution-focused approaches, helping build practical tools for managing stress and improving sleep habits at a pace set by you.
Sessions are goal-setting and collaborative: you and your counsellor agree on what you want to focus on, then revisit and adjust those goals as things change.
Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine
Registered Acupuncturists commonly use acupuncture and auricular acupuncture to support relaxation and sleep, and the clinic's Registered TCM Practitioner can add herbal support as part of a broader plan where appropriate.
Registered massage therapy
Registered Massage Therapists commonly use slower, deliberate techniques to help ease the physical tension that stress can leave in the body, supporting a calmer overall state and, for many patients, more comfortable sleep.
A session for stress-related tension often starts with a short conversation about where you carry tension day to day, so treatment can focus on the areas that matter most for you.
Getting Started
Your first visit
A first visit for stress and sleep concerns varies by discipline: a counselling session starts with a conversation about what is going on and what you are hoping for, while acupuncture or massage sessions begin with a short intake before hands-on or needle-based treatment.
Across all three, care is unhurried and paced to you, and nothing has to be disclosed before you are ready. Book online through Jane for counselling, acupuncture, or massage therapy; extended health receipts are provided, and direct billing is rolling out now, starting with Sun Life.

Stress and sleep FAQs
Do I need to be in crisis to book a counselling session?
No. Counselling offers support and practical tools, not only crisis intervention, and you do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to start.
Can acupuncture, massage, and counselling be combined for stress and sleep?
Yes. Many patients coordinate across disciplines, addressing both the physical and the emotional side of stress. Let each practitioner know what else you are working on.
What if I need urgent mental health support?
Counselling at the clinic is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis or need urgent help, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line; see the safety note below.
If symptoms are severe, sudden, or getting worse, such as intense pain, loss of function, a new or worsening head injury, or any other urgent concern, seek urgent medical care or call 9-1-1 rather than waiting for an appointment. This page is general information, not medical advice, and does not replace an assessment from a qualified healthcare provider.
